Does not matter if the can afford it. They will get more money and larger pensions till Chicago goes bankrupt and then they are at the top of the list of creditors so will get much more money than many others. The public sector unions are allowed to rape the taxpayers. The only way out of this is to vote with your feet.

It isn’t just Chicago. That’d be the entire State of Illinois, Allison Schrager. Could Ally at last be waking up to the reality that all Illinoisans have lived with for more than a decade? JB the Hutt and Mayor Cliff Notes are only the most recent examples of Illinois political animals making huge promises (to all except the ones who get stuck paying for it) while whistling past the graveyard where Illinois’ finances currently lie. If Chicago doesn’t ask and Illinois doesn’t allow bankruptcy, just wait for the excitement when Chicago just stops paying the police and fireman. I’m not sure they will even try to show up like the TSA mostly did.
A largely unasked question is becoming glaring: Is Illinois doing all it should to use artificial intelligence to make government cost less and work better? So far, the evidence says no.
