Economist James Bohn recently documented the breathtaking resultsof that experiment in which Wisconsin — for a century a high-tax, high-regulation state atrophying in a straitjacket of antique progressivism — turned in 2011 toward free-market policies. Illinois, meanwhile, once one of the freer states, embraced interventionist economics.
Wisconsin is run by a progressive Supreme Court. The legislature is Republican and the governor is Democrat so nothing gets done. So much so that the governor can pull dirty tricks and the progressive legislature will back him up. The WI supreme court recently said that Gov. Just look at any state sharing a border with Illinois. All are more business friendly.
A largely unasked question is becoming glaring: Is Illinois doing all it should to use artificial intelligence to make government cost less and work better? So far, the evidence says no.
