HB4416 and Its Fiscal Implications for CPS – Civic Federation

The Federation does not object to the goal of providing unemployment benefits to seasonal school district employees during the summer. However, it emphatically opposes any unfunded mandates to local governments, including school districts. This bill could impose hundreds of millions of dollars in costs on Illinois school districts without providing them with commensurate funding.

I have a better idea, YEAR ROUND SCHOOL.
They could use it to prepare the students that can’t speak English, read, write, or do arithmetic for the next year.

Work three-quarters of the day for three-quarters of a year, get four-quarters of pay and bennies and now they want unemployment for the quarter they don’t have to work but already get paid for?

The Civic Federation talks out of both sides of their mouth. No matter if the funds come from local funds or the state it comes from the taxpayers. Same church, different pew.

These employees don’t need unemployment benefits during the summer. Summer is their paid vacation.

It will be expensive. If CTU wishes to stand with their labor friends, they can agree to close underutilized and underperforming schools. Viva Labor, Viva May 1! Or not.
