Overtime Cost Chicago Taxpayers $544.4M in 2025, Including $285.8M for Police, Down 6.3% From 2024 – WTTW (Chicago)

In 2026, CPD has a budget of $200 million for overtime. To finish 2026 on budget, CPD must reduce its spending on overtime by 30 percent as compared with what the department spent in 2025.

Chicago needs to hire more police, but BJ won’t. It’s simple: if there were enough police to cover all festivals and events, wouldn’t need as much OT.

Where does the money in the budget for 1900 police officers needed to be hired go ?? To support the ILLEGAL INVADERS OR THE MAYOR’S PET PROJECTS .

The leadership should be put on a salary, with merit pay, and no overtime.

Leadership is salaried and ineligible for OT. There aren’t enough non-leadership people.
