Report calls out Illinois, Midwest for hidden data center tax breaks – Jacksonville Journal-Courier

Researcher Kasia Tarczynska said while Illinois does disclose some information, it doesn’t include annual incentives for local facilities. In states that do provide this information, she said revenue losses are soaring, with three states already losing $1 billion or more per year.

So Illinois is providing huge subsidies on the backs of taxpayers for companies needing the data storage like Amazon, Microsoft, Apple, Meta, and Google all without the benefit of meaningful long-term employment. Why do these companies need the tax incentive from a state struggling to pay its bills? Bottom line is actuaries say pensions will be $5 BILLION dollars underfunded in the next year alone. Anyone else wondering why data center proponents change the figures constantly on how much water and electricity they use, their impact upon the surrounding area, etc? These guys are shady.
