State needs to quit using cash basis and start using accrual basis. It may not all be due at once, but short of bankruptcy it’s all due.

I can’t remember the last time the state had a truly balanced budget. Every one I can remember involved gimmicks that would get someone in the private sector jailed for fraud. And the beat goes on.
Why can’t just one journalist ask the governor publicly how he can claim the budget is balanced when we have pension bills that are waaaay past due?
Because there are no more hard hitting journalists. They are all in Putzger and Braindeads pockets. You don’t say or print anything without an ok from them
It’s particularly depressing to see the regular media, even some of the better parts, report that the new budget “fully funded” the pensions. All that really means is that they funded according to the schedule made up by the legislature. Actuaries and financial people know better and scoff at that.
Pensions costs are the cause of almost all of Illinois budget issues. They are going to last a long, long time.

To fund to a “kick the can down the road” schedule is nothing for them to be proud of.
