Bill allowing undocumented immigrants to pay in-state tuition arrives on Pritzker’s desk – WAND (Decatur)

"We lose 50 percent of our students already," said Sen. Jason Plummer. "It's actually slightly above 50 percent to out-of-state colleges and universities. Legislation like this will only increase that number. It will push more of our young minds to other states."

The state university system is collapsing and permitting illegal immigrants to pay in-state tuition is a last ditch, hail mary attempt to increase admissions. The state even gives away tuition for free to poor students with poor academic records and no, or low, standardized test scores, and that can’t even reverse the long term trend of declining enrollment. They haven’t even addressed the demographic cliff yet either that every year going forward for the next 18 years there will be fewer graduating 18 year olds than the year before. Go ahead and fill the colleges with illiterates and others that automatically have points added to their test scores. Meanwhile, online and Christian colleges seem to be doing just fine.

“Yet, Democrats said this bill will create equity and ensure all students have the same opportunity to earn a college degree.” – how many US citizen legal residents of IL don’t get into U of IL because of foreign students paying full tuition or above? Is this equity for US citizens and IL students? This issue has nothing to do with equity and everything to do with eroding the meaning of citizenship for the purpose of pandering to future votes.
