One of the main problems with infant mortality in African-American women is extremely low Vitamin D3 levels in people with darker skin. In general African Americans need at least 6 times more D3 than lighter skin people. There is more scientific info at NCBI(pubmed.gov) If the mother is very low in D than the infant gets next to none plus higher rates of other diseases like asthma are attributed to low D3 levels in everyone.
