Death to Facts: Northwestern journalism prof Steven Thrasher tells pro-Palestinian demonstrators to reject objective reporting – Wirepoints
It’s beyond belief that a supposedly reputable journalism school could have Thrasher or any proponent of advocacy journalism among its faculty.
Retail is dying everywhere for many reasons. Online certainly contributes to the decline but don’t forget that America at the recession had more sq. footage for retail per person anywhere in the world by far. People are also buying less junk so to speak. And smaller households in the city contribute to fewer retail purchases – kids are always getting new clothes, toys, upgrading broken and outdated items around the house, and so on. businesses are tired of paying for public/private union-parasite lifestyles, you expected something different?
Very True. One small mistake though that I was corrected on a few times. They are municipal employees not workers. What do you think this state and country will look like in 20-30 years if this pattern continues? Take Care!!
They’re not employees. The workers (former employees) taking the pensions tend to leave. I would too if the dumb dumb state of Illinois sent me a check for thousands every month for the rest of my and my spouse’s life.
It would be nice to retire at 55 and receive checks for 35 years or so. I read that in California firefighters can retire at 45. For those who move out of state with a pension like a teacher how is their healthcare taken care of? If they move to Florida does Illinois (taxpayers) pay the bill? Not sure how that works.
Yes, I believe healthcare is taken care of until they can take medicare. It’s a really really sweet deal!
Thanks. So basically Illinois sends a check to pay for medical care in another state plus the pension check. Real sweet. I wonder what the total cost of out of state retirees healthcare costs taxpayers per year? They could go to the most expensive hospitals anywhere in the country. Maybe the healthcare costs should only apply if they stay in Illinois and retirees should then be covered under the ACA until Medicare kicks in.
