In her place was Brandon Johnson, who promised a more inclusive approach to building a “better, stronger, safer Chicago.” It hasn’t turned out that way. Today, there’s little disagreement that Mayor Johnson has disappointed on most key issues. On crime. On policing. On migrants. On education. On governance. Even on foreign affairs.

Imagine how many of the people that are in his situation could be lifted up and given a sense of purpose and fulfillment if the city were to bust the unions and pay them half of the $45-50 an hour that city employees get right now. For $22-25 an hour you could empower a lot of people that need work and cut city payroll in half as a bonus.
