A quarter of Chicago high schoolers missed more than a month of school last year – Chalkbeat Chicago

Across Chicago Public Schools, nearly 25,000 high school students — or a quarter of all high schoolers — missed at least 35 days last year, according to CPS data. And yet, Chicago Public Schools’ graduation rate has continued to inch up — from 81 percent in 2019 to 85 percent in 2024.

Yes, and the border was secure under Biden and Mayorkas. Just ask them.

Fun fact: U.S. educational authorities consider anyone with a GED as having “completed” high school. In other words, a 12 week program is the functional equivalent of 4 years of formal high school. See, e.g. https://nces.ed.gov/programs/coe/indicator/coj/status-dropout-rates#:~:text=The%20overall%20status%20dropout%20rate,from%202.6%20to%201.9%20percent).
Accordingly, government should transform secondary education into a 12 week program for all. The new system would culminate in the issuance of GED certificates. In the process truancy would be greatly reduced and billions in taxpayer dollars would be saved.

It gets worse Crawdaddy. I spent a summer doing book work and road work and had to pass a written test and drivers test to get my drivers license in the 70’s.

Dems give one to every illegal along with a voters card, medical insurance, cell phone, EBT card and paid hotel lodging!

Missed 35 days of school when Illinois requires a minimum school year of 176 days for students. This gal is really, I mean really, going to be a success when she finds a job…and will be one of those whining social media posters when she loses it after a week.

What isn’t being discussed with this is the lack of accountability by the parents. They are allowing their children to miss school. The legal system is also lacking accountability in terms of truancy. There’s no teeth to the truancy laws and parents and students know it!

The deal is pay $30,000 a year per student and the CPS (CTU) will just pass them through the system. Money talk and BS walks.

And next year, the rate will be 98.9%. It’s easy to pass uneducated, truant students along when there are no repercussions. Education doesn’t figure in the mix anymore when we already have the history of systemic racism, evils of capitalism/ employment, trans rights and free meals on the program. Add in concerns for mental health counseling, housing and medical care also.

IL schools are failing. Pritzker wants all kids promoted and graduated to improve his numbers. If the students didn’t earn it they shouldn’t be promoted or graduated. The students deserve to be taught.

Mark Glennon on AM560’s Morning Answer: Chicago pension buyout plan mostly shifts debt rather than eliminating it, property tax surge doubles inflation over three decades

Chicago’s political leadership is floating a pension buyout program as evidence it is seriously addressing the city’s thirty-six-billion-dollar unfunded pension liability, but Mark Glennon, founder of the Illinois policy research organization Wirepoints, said that the proposal moves debt from one column to another rather than reducing it, and that the broader fiscal picture facing the city continues to deteriorate across every measurable dimension.
