A Secretive Hedge Fund Is Gutting Newsrooms – The Atlantic

Of the Chicago Tribune: "Here was one of America’s most storied newspapers—a publication that had endorsed Abraham Lincoln and scooped the Treaty of Versailles, that had toppled political bosses and tangled with crooked mayors and collected dozens of Pulitzer Prizes—reduced to a newsroom the size of a Chipotle...After a powerful Illinois state legislator resigned amid bribery allegations, the paper didn’t have a reporter in Springfield to follow the resulting scandal. And when Chicago suffered a brutal summer crime wave, the paper had no one on the night shift to listen to the police scanner."

Something good came out of it. John Kass has started his own website and is now free from the shackles of a politicized organization.

Yes, his site will eventually be paywalled, but I will be one who will support Mr. Kass when that happens.

The newsrooms turned their back on journalism decades ago. Gushing, fawning coverage of Democrats in general, and Obama in particular. This while vomiting bile about Republicans in general, and Trump in particular. ‘The News’ became nothing more than one-sided opinion pieces and democrat press releases insulting the intelligence of half their readership. The result? Over half the readership evaporated, some seeing no reason to pay for news, but many (myself included) not wanting to pay to read partisan drivel. It certainly appears as if there are no adults in the news business any more The newsrooms are run by interns,… Read more »

The newsrooms self-imploded long before the vulture hedge fund arrived. Readership is already decimated. Hedge fund just interested in the real estate assets. You did notice, Trib Tower is a residential condo building now, right?

The entire Chicago media was gelded. I’m waiting for Ch 7 to host a Chicago version of American Band Stand.

But hey, look on the bright side, we had five years of non-stop coverage of Orange Man Bad! That’s all people want to read about, right?

I for one will only smile when the Trib goes under. I do not relish in people losing their jobs, although some of the leftist sycophants there desperately need to be fired today. Reading the Trib was once an enjoyable experience, but that was decades ago. The newsroom transformed itself into a one sided, single opinion mouth piece for what ever leftist drivel was spoon fed to them by their favored socialist sources. With their leftist, group think writing they are a buggy whip manufacturer in a Tesla world. They are no longer reporters, but have become propagandists.

I absolutely relish watching leftist institutions crumble. Job losses are icing on the cake.

Now if conservatives would boycott the NFL….

I am hoping for Atlanta to win the World Series, after MLB pulled the All Star Game. Would love to see Rob Manfred handing the trophy to the Braves.

Mark Glennon on AM560’s Morning Answer: Chicago pension buyout plan mostly shifts debt rather than eliminating it, property tax surge doubles inflation over three decades

Chicago’s political leadership is floating a pension buyout program as evidence it is seriously addressing the city’s thirty-six-billion-dollar unfunded pension liability, but Mark Glennon, founder of the Illinois policy research organization Wirepoints, said that the proposal moves debt from one column to another rather than reducing it, and that the broader fiscal picture facing the city continues to deteriorate across every measurable dimension. Audio here.
