Chicago’s political leadership is floating a pension buyout program as evidence it is seriously addressing the city’s thirty-six-billion-dollar unfunded pension liability, but Mark Glennon, founder of the Illinois policy research organization Wirepoints, said that the proposal moves debt from one column to another rather than reducing it, and that the broader fiscal picture facing the city continues to deteriorate across every measurable dimension. get ready for a huge spike in crime as the Dictator chases the criminal vote. Get ready for the media to not report the huge crime spike or at least shift blame from the Dictator’s policies
This is the “it will get worse” part before it gets better.
“Kathy Saltmarsh, executive director of the Sentencing Policy Advisory Council, said the law keeps prisoners locked up for years, making them a burden for Illinois taxpayers.”
How about this Kathy, when they get out of jail with no bond give them a road map to your house. So it costs $45,000 to keep a prisoner locked up, for every pension we get rid of we can lock up two prisoners. You really have no clue about which burdens the Illinois taxpayers are willing to pay for.
“Gov. J.B. Pritzker has proposed seven principles that he said will reform and modernize Illinois’ criminal justice system. The proposals include ending cash bail, reducing prison sentences, and increasing police accountability. Khadine Bennett, with the ACLU, applauded the proposals.” This is really about decriminalizing behavior most people in society consider deviant and antisocial. The support for these changes comes exclusively from far left progressive radicals who themselves live in bedroom communities removed from the consequences of their actions and from the communities that commit most of the crime. None of these politicians care about the safety of the public. Many of them have armed security protecting them and their families or live in communities far removed from everyday violence. I suggest the readers of this blog check out CWBCHICAGO to actually read about the ridiculous idea of no bail and catch and release of the violent criminals that prowl the streets. Mayor Lightfoot has a personal security force of around 40 police officers guarding her home along with a personal detail of about a dozen police officers and private security with her everywhere she goes. Try and get… Read more »
Put the inmates in charge of the asylum and then stand back and watch more people leave the state.
I’m starting 2021 in a new state and I feel foolish waiting so long to get out of Illinois. Now all I have to worry about is supporting my immediate family. In Illinois I had to support them plus hordes of lazy public unions and unnecessary levels of government. That’s a lot of dead weight to carry around your neck each and every day. It slowly wears you down. People ask me, “Why did you leave Illinois?” I reply, “Why would anyone stay?”
Let us see now…
Yup. That’s “Criminal Justice Reform” alright…
