Ald. Lamont Robinson to Propose Name Change for Douglas Neighborhood Due to Historic Ties to Slavery – WTTW (Chicago)

Robinson is looking to add an “s” at the end of the name, to represent famed abolitionist Frederick Douglass. “We need to make sure that our young people understand its history and be able to live in a community that supports the African American community,” Robinson said.

Stephen Douglas was a Democrat, and a virulent racist. He should absolutely be removed. You see, I’m perfectly OK with damnatio memoriae for every Democrat that has ever existed. But don’t you dare try to do this to anyone else. Just Democrats. Is this hypocritical and intellectually inconsistent? Yes, totally. Do I care? No, not one bit.
