Hairston is the fifth member of the Chicago City Council to announce they will not run for re-election next year, joining indicted Ald. Carrie Austin, Ald. James Cappleman, Ald. Michele Smith and Ald. George Cardenas. Ald. Sophia King, Ald. Raymond Lopez and Ald. Roderick Sawyer announced bids for mayor in 2023.
