Alderman Wants To Ban ‘Sweepstakes Machines’ As Step Toward Legalizing Video Gaming – Block Club Chicago

Mayor Brandon Johnson did not directly answer a question Wednesday about whether he would support legalizing video gambling machines as proposed under the alternative budget proposal. “My team is going to scour through and look at some of the projections that some members of the City Council have put forward,” he said.

People who want to gamble will, people who don’t won’t. It’s that simple. The small semi rural town where I live has video game terminals everywhere. Bars, restaurants, stand alones and the revenue each generates is crazy. A small bar/grill I visit generates almost $3 million in activity. The owner is knocking down over $20K a month in her share. The Village, the county, the state share the rest of the profits. Approx 50% is returned to the players so about $1.5 million is sent to government agencies.
