Tuscola has a population a little under 5,000 as of the 2020 census so this is going to be a big deal to that town. But the buyer, Fufeng, is a Chinese company that will be building it to grind corn for cattle feed markets. It is frightening we are turning our food processing over to Chinese on our own land. China and its leaders are hostile to the US and Illinois can’t get anyone else to invest?
How is this any different than a Chinese auto manufacturer, like Byd, building a plant in the U.S. and selling Chinese cars in America? Even Trump would be OK with that. And I wouldn’t call what they’ll be doing at the plant in Tuscola as food production. They will be making protein rich animal feed made with locally grown corn.
Fufeng will get a major break on property taxes. Would a similar break have been offered to a US company? Is a similar break available to owners of existing plants? Can anyone afford to build a plant without getting special breaks?

Cattle gets fed. We eat cattle. That is part of the food production process. We don’t eat cars.
