Based on a Chicago Public Schools public funds audit, some lawmakers today began a renewed push to prioritize education funding and eliminate the Chicago Public School block grant which allows CPS to end-run the school aid formula.

“The most recent report from the Chicago Board of Education Inspector General that shows a rampant pattern of waste, fraud and abuse” – State Senator Chapin Rose, a former prosecutor.

“The Chicago schools Inspector General reported cases of school administrators faking data, creating ‘ghost students’ to pad enrollment and allow for hiring even more administrators. That’s taking money right out of the pockets of schools in my district,” Rose said.
