Chicago’s political leadership is floating a pension buyout program as evidence it is seriously addressing the city’s thirty-six-billion-dollar unfunded pension liability, but Mark Glennon, founder of the Illinois policy research organization Wirepoints, said that the proposal moves debt from one column to another rather than reducing it, and that the broader fiscal picture facing the city continues to deteriorate across every measurable dimension. It’s pretty clear now that COVID-19 is just a severe outbreak of the flu. Certainly worse than a cold, but not a pandemic. It affects mainly the elderly, medically compromised and those with bad lung function. Most people will survive. The real concern with this virus is that it is extremely contagious and transmittable. It’s certainly more contagious than the office cold that everyone catches at least once. I’ve been giving this idea some thought. What if Covid-19 virus somehow merges with Zika virus. If this continues into spring and maybe summer an infected person with Covid-19 gets bit by a mosquito with Zika and then transmitted to someone else. I would call this CovidZ-20. This could be like the Andromeda Strain or Outbreak. Just a thought.
