Chicago’s political leadership is floating a pension buyout program as evidence it is seriously addressing the city’s thirty-six-billion-dollar unfunded pension liability, but Mark Glennon, founder of the Illinois policy research organization Wirepoints, said that the proposal moves debt from one column to another rather than reducing it, and that the broader fiscal picture facing the city continues to deteriorate across every measurable dimension. Wonder if the Tan card is squashed.
I wouldn’t assume that a license issued by the State assures that the possessor is competent. We’re fortunate to have sites such as Yelp (and if Yelp goes rogue, there’ll be others) that help us find reliable home services.
That said, after a neighbor locked herself out and called a locksmith, I was pretty shocked how easily he picked the lock. So maybe some kind of licensing, or at least registration, is appropriate.
The state should not be involved in the licensing of locksmiths. First of all 75% of states don’t license locksmiths so why should Illinois. Secondly, the company the story focuses on is licensed by the story and couldn’t do their job. The landlord, who apparently is not a licensed locksmith, fixed the door. Government occupational licensing just creates more regulation, paper work. and costs and restricts people’s ability to start businesses. It means less competition and therefore higher prices and less choices for consumers.
Lets come up with more and more ways to turn Chicago into an even bigger sh*thole than it is. LOL so the criminals are going to be able to break into homes and businesses easier and rob them. Another great job from the communist shi*thole Chicago legislature.
Forgot to mention Chicagoland moving companies. Scammers give an initial estimate and then on moving day three pushy thugs show up with a dramatically different and much higher price.
Not practical for some but happy to say that last time we moved we were able to do everything ourselves from packing to transporting.
You will meet a lot of shady people in Chicago–heating and air conditioning guys who upsell and overcharge for things you don’t need, “maids” and cleaning people just out of prison, nannies and babysitters who steal. Sorry, but that’s just the way it is.. Don’t let anybody into your home without a criminal background check. Just be really cautious…collect three bids on any work you need done…watch a You Tube video for simple projects you can do yourself. I’d never hire someone to help me clean my house…rather do it myself. Also: Chicago is infamous for tow truck drivers and… Read more »
According to State Rep. Edgar Gonzalez, Black and Brown people are too dumb to learn a trade and pass a simple test.
I can’t pass a test to prove that I’m proficient in the job that I want so let’s just drop the requirements needed to get that job. It kinda sounds like the Chicago teachers hiring process.
DEI – Didn’t Earn It!
Yep, and let’s expand into surgeons, airline pilots and nuclear reactor operators. What could go wrong?
