Chicago’s political leadership is floating a pension buyout program as evidence it is seriously addressing the city’s thirty-six-billion-dollar unfunded pension liability, but Mark Glennon, founder of the Illinois policy research organization Wirepoints, said that the proposal moves debt from one column to another rather than reducing it, and that the broader fiscal picture facing the city continues to deteriorate across every measurable dimension. So, it appears that any Governor would be required to seek approval of House and Senate to extend his power beyond 30 days. Given that the Legislature is scheduled to meet on May 20 one could expect either: 1.) a quick pro-forma vote extending the Governor’s powers with some or no limitation, or 2) silence. With options 2, I’d expect the Governor to argue in court that he had tacit approval for his actions. I believe the Thomas Moore argument was that silence had to be taken for assent under the law. I don’t think that silence by the legislature is a valid form of constitutional amendment, not even here in the state of intoxication. Silence from the Supreme Court concerning a case that they are most certainly aware of and can immediately bring before them is another matter entirely.
You are right, BIll. Silence by the legislature does not void the 30-day limit.
The real question here is: why hasn’t the Illinois Supreme Court stepped in to stop this fat Hitler wannabe? All they have to do is grant certiorari in one of the cases already filed and put this ignorant slob in his place. Their lack of action in this Constitutional crisis is very disturbing.

Pritzker needs to get on the next plane out of Florida and come back and open this state.
Wow, this is Pritzker’s blue dress. What kind of cover-up are these guys trying to pull us?
The current AG should be sanctioned for witholding this.
Reading the tea leaves I am sure Pritzker’s call to legistlature was actually for them to address THIS.
The will to power.
