Chicago’s political leadership is floating a pension buyout program as evidence it is seriously addressing the city’s thirty-six-billion-dollar unfunded pension liability, but Mark Glennon, founder of the Illinois policy research organization Wirepoints, said that the proposal moves debt from one column to another rather than reducing it, and that the broader fiscal picture facing the city continues to deteriorate across every measurable dimension. Audio here.
If you like the way Lori Lightfoot Governs, you will love Irvin.
Mancow is a better option for the realists.
He is a Democrat people.
True.
ABP (Anybody but Pritzker) though, anybody…….
Illinois will not survive another 4 years of Freddie.
Good article in the Illinois Review on who this candidate is.
It’s Illinois – is there a realistic opposition choice? I’m ABP – anybody but Pritzker. It sucks, but this is Illinois.
Voters were really concerned about Gov. Glen Youngkin in Virginia being a fake Republican RINO too. But on his first day in office he removed mask mandates, banned CRT and so on. Irvin, if elected, will know exactly what to do on his first day, and getting rid of mask mandates is at the very top of that list. Some people may vote for him precisely because he will get rid of the mask mandate.
Importantly in Va also was the down ballot races – look at the new AG – kicking Leftist butt and taking names. If Republicans could win these back, would help a lot in Illinois.
Don’t expect anything from AG Kwame Raoul. He’s ‘more of the same.’
Virginia is a purple state and he [Youngkin] has some support. Illinois is as blue as you can get. It’s a terrible comparison.
IL is solid blue but not as blue as you can get – that would be reserved for California, New York, Mass, etc. California a 66R/33D, Mass is 70D/30R, not sure about NY but its lopsided. As for IL, my best estimate is 52-56% D, 44-48% R overall. It changes depending on the race, the candidate, turnout, midterms vs. presidential vs. municipal. IL is known as one of the most gerrymandered states (even more than the R states the D’s love to complain about) which is how D’s keep their power in the legislature. I know Trump only got 40%… Read more »
You are still trying to convince people that Illinois is not that blue. You are only lying to yourself as nobody else believes that. 2020 – GOP received 40.5% for Trump 2018 – GOP 38.8% for Rauner 2016 – GOP 38.4% for Trump 2014 – GOP 50.3% for Rauner 2012 – GOP 40.7% for Romney 2010 – GOP 45.9% for Brady 2008 – GOP 36.8% for McCain 2006 – GOP 39.3% for Barr-Topinka 2004 – GOP 45.5% for Bush 2002 – GOP 45.1% for Ryan Illinois GOP is averaging 42.1% in the last 10 elections. 6 of the last 8… Read more »
“The unions sat on their hands and let Quinn fail.” You mean they didn’t cheat? Unions let Quinn fail and so they could fight Rauner instead for four years? That makes no sense. Regarding my figures, I don’t think my estimated figures are all that different from what you’re saying. I said between 44-48% and your average is 42% which is pretty darn close. I said it was blue. That’s not in doubt. You’re nitpicking me over a strawman whether its blue or really blue. There’s a once in a life time red wave coming and JB ought to be… Read more »
“You’re nitpicking me over a strawman whether its blue or really blue.” Look in the mirror debtsor and then listen to your own words. “It’s blue but not as blue as you can get”. You continue to try and portray Illinois as this leaning blue state (48%) and republicans are competitive. They are not. They do not hold one statewide office. “I said between 44-48% and your average is 42% which is pretty darn close.” I guess by that logic I could say that Illinois GOP is about 36-40% of the state. Same margin of error as your exaggerated estimate.… Read more »
https://247wallst.com/special-report/2021/11/19/this-is-the-state-that-sells-the-most-guns/ According to the FBI data, the state with the most gun sales through the first 10 months of this year was Illinois at more than 7.7 million. The state has only 4% of the U.S. population but accounted for 24% of gun sales for the period. In second place, Kentucky had about 3.1 million sales over the same period. That’s more than 8% of the guns sold nationwide, even though the state has only 1.3% of the population. Say what you want about how blue Illinois is but #1 in gun sales (2 years in a row now!). Who… Read more »
Irvin and Youngkin aren’t the same. Many reports point to Irvin’s similarities to Ds. We didn’t see Irvin fighting tyranny for the past 18 months like other candidates. After Kinzinger – IL doesn’t need another RINO. It is a setup to make Jabba look better.
Irvine a Democrat, would make Jabba look better. Irvin a perfect fit for Kim Foxx.
Anybody but Pritzker I agree if the aliens were to land in Illinois and approach me and say take me to your leader I would have to laugh and say your in Illinois.
