Here’s who is behind the new publications flooding mailboxes – Crain’s*

"Chicagoans in search of reliable political coverage in today’s fractured media environment have a new source this campaign season. But whether that source is news or recycled propaganda from a prominent political activist is most debatable. As are the actions of the big donor who’s apparently picking up the tab. At issue is the recent appearance in mailboxes all around town of Chicago City Wire, a broadsheet publication that bills itself just below its nameplate as 'Real data. Real News.'"

The outpouring of liberal angst on NextDoor was startling. It’s as if reading something other than MSM would kill them. Some recipients called the Post Office to complain. They don’t complain about other political missives, but this one really got them heated. What was gratifying was the majority response: basically, if you don’t like it, chuck it … though you may want to consider reading another view. Liberal sheeple don’t believe in considering alternate views – those on the conservative side do. I listen to the liberal view and commentary and am appalled at how many lies … outright LIES… Read more »

Journalism and publishing abhor a vacuum. Journalists let there personal biases seep into their work, readers took note and went searching for other outlets, then other sources filled those gaps with equally biased but on the other end of the spectrum.

These are self-inflicted wounds. Mainstream journalists lost the trust of the public but don’t want to do the work to earn it back. They’d rather blame publications like “Chicago City Wire” for filling the gaps they left behind. Readers didn’t change, journalists did.

I laughed so… Read more »

Mark Glennon on AM560’s Morning Answer: Chicago pension buyout plan mostly shifts debt rather than eliminating it, property tax surge doubles inflation over three decades

Chicago’s political leadership is floating a pension buyout program as evidence it is seriously addressing the city’s thirty-six-billion-dollar unfunded pension liability, but Mark Glennon, founder of the Illinois policy research organization Wirepoints, said that the proposal moves debt from one column to another rather than reducing it, and that the broader fiscal picture facing the city continues to deteriorate across every measurable dimension. Audio here.
