Bill to Ban Gas Powered Leaf Blowers Introduced – WLDS (Jacksonville, IL)

State Sen. Laura Fine (D-Glenview) argued that the machines generate noise at a decibel level that can cause hearing loss in a short amount of time, and send dust, other allergens, animal feces, and trace amounts of heavy metals into the air for considerable distances.

A few Illinois municipalities already have a variety of seasonal and other leaf blower restrictions, which the Noise Free America Coalition incorrectly labels as a ban on the use of leaf blowers.

The same website use the following in their effort to ban leaf blowers.

“After rainfalls, some people even use them to dry their lawns.”

“And has anyone noticed that virtually all leaf blower users are men?

Maybe it’s because leaf blowers exhibit the worst stereotypical male characteristics: they’re loud, they’re rude, they’re aggressive, and they’re inconsiderate.”

Battery operated ones are a little more quiet but last around 12 minutes. I agree with the smoked inhaled and wear ear protectors but have little choice. My commercial zero turn is also noisy but no bills against that yet as are weed wackers. Maybe I’ll… Read more »

Chicago’s political leadership is floating a pension buyout program as evidence it is seriously addressing the city’s thirty-six-billion-dollar unfunded pension liability, but Mark Glennon, founder of the Illinois policy research organization Wirepoints, said that the proposal moves debt from one column to another rather than reducing it, and that the broader fiscal picture facing the city continues to deteriorate across every measurable dimension.
