Bills to address teacher shortages advance – Capitol News IL

The Senate Education Committee unanimously endorsed two bills that would allow retired teachers to work as substitutes more days in a school year without losing any of their pension benefits.

Sounds like you’re sticking a band-aid on a deep gash! Letting them work more days as subs? Temporary teachers who make their own schedule? Is that what our students deserve? Instead, let’s address the root cause, this state offers nothing but a debt burden and high cost of living. Teachers just starting out cannot afford to live on their own with the high cost of living…taxed into moving out of this state. Happening all the time.
