Black drivers in Chicago pulled over 5 times more often than white motorists, IDOT study shows – ABC7 (Chicago)

This, even as Black residents make up less than 30% of the city's population, a state report found. The disparity was even more pronounced for the more than 68,000 street stops, 70% of which involved African Americans, who were stopped 11 times more often than white pedestrians.

Good old ABC. Always good for a few racism stoking stories on every newscast.

Could it be that POC actually drive like crap and attract police attention?

Get behind a car and identify the race of the driver – can’t do it can you?

On a traffic stop the officer rarely knows the race of the driver, so how can this statistic mean anything?

Fake news here. Missing from this equation is the ratio of white to latinks and black drivers on the road. Maybe white drivers are pulled over less because there are fewer white drivers overall. Whites tend to live in the most densely populated neighborhoods. For example, I lived in Chicago for 10 years without a car, and when I finally got a car, it spent 6 days a week parked in front of my apartment building and didn’t move. This was pretty typical of my neighbors, friends and peers. I rarely drove. But if I were black and lived in… Read more »

You’re also missing the skill level of white to black drivers. This is assuming black drivers drive equally as competently as white drivers. In my experience a wild assumption.

I went to traffic court many years for my own traffic minor ticket (thrown out of court). The case in front of mine was some young black kid. He was there for some traffic violations and not having a license. He found guilty for speeding or whatever and driving on suspended license. Judge told him to stop driving because he didn’t have a valid license. This kid looked the judge afterwards and said, “Judge, I ain’t gonna let a no license stop me from drivin'” and turned around and walked out of court.

Take a ride down the Dan Ryan and then take a ride down 355. After that tell me how many more violations you saw on the Dan Ryan than 355.

I get your point but 355 isn’t in Chicago (where I come from we call it ’53’)

Mark Glennon on AM560’s Morning Answer: Chicago pension buyout plan mostly shifts debt rather than eliminating it, property tax surge doubles inflation over three decades

Chicago’s political leadership is floating a pension buyout program as evidence it is seriously addressing the city’s thirty-six-billion-dollar unfunded pension liability, but Mark Glennon, founder of the Illinois policy research organization Wirepoints, said that the proposal moves debt from one column to another rather than reducing it, and that the broader fiscal picture facing the city continues to deteriorate across every measurable dimension.
