WBEZ reported that the merger would mean the Sun-Times would become a not-for-profit subsidiary of Chicago Public Media – as WBEZ already is. The Sun-Times would get a nonprofit board of its own, and the Sun-Times and WBEZ newsrooms would maintain their own editorial independence and maintain their respective newsrooms.
Some people claim public media outlets like WBEZ and NPR get very minimal funding from taxpayers. But these outlets get most of their revenue from grants given by other non-profits, using money given to them by donors, who deduct those contributions rom their taxable income, who in turn pay less taxes, meaning all the other taxpayers pick up the slack. In other words, you could say these NFP outlets are entirely funded by taxpayers.

It doesn’t seem like it should have non profit status. Can you imagine the outrage for a Trump nonprofit newspaper?

LOL, if anybody thought the Sun Times was a train wreck before just wait and see what happens now. LOL!
A largely unasked question is becoming glaring: Is Illinois doing all it should to use artificial intelligence to make government cost less and work better? So far, the evidence says no.
