Springfield Police Chief Ken Scarlette spoke recently about the impacts of the closure of the Sangamon County Juvenile Detention Center: "We have juveniles who are becoming emboldened, who are being arrested with firearms, who we have to turn around and release back to their guardians and go back home, and I think that sets a terrible precedent and a bad message for what we as citizens expect in our community."
Perhaps Ken should voice his concerns to his fellow Springfieldian, Kwame. He’s the one that maintains that there are too many people of color in jail.
A largely unasked question is becoming glaring: Is Illinois doing all it should to use artificial intelligence to make government cost less and work better? So far, the evidence says no.
