Brandon Johnson Defends Proposal to Give Area Around United Center $55M Tax Break – WTTW (Chicago)

“This is a project that is going to create thousands of jobs and opportunities for the people across the city, but particularly for development on the West Side,” the mayor said at a City Hall news conference. “This is a clear indication that the city of Chicago remains open for business, but we’re just not for sale.”

By 2040 the redeveloped area now targeted will
include 115 new 7-11 type shops, accepting SNAP cards, 224 new carry out liquor stores,
29 chicken, fish stores, 15 MB Churches
2 walk in health care buildings.
The United Center will be closed, Bulls and
Black Hawks will have moved to another city, not in Illinois.
