Breaking down the numbers: Chicago Democrats wield the taxation sledgehammer and smash the low-income black communities – American Thinker

"A person making $24,500 per year, living in an inherited home, could easily be taxed into poverty, and forced to sell a property they own outright, because they can’t afford the tax bills; progressive politicians are taxing people out of their own homes, and as always, the hardest hit are those on the lower rungs of the socio-economic ladder."

Do you hear any democraps talking about this? Do you hear anyone in the mainstream media talking about it? I don’t. You slaves will grumble and complain but you will do nothing of any substance about it. Has all self respect been beaten out of you?

Hello, Indiana!

Umm.. they voted for it.

That’s always the go-to comment: they voted for it. And it’s true, some people did vote for this, and will continue to do so. It’s in their self interest. But many others did not vote for this. Yet they suffer the same or worse consequences. “They voted for it” accepts the premise that a majority may legitimately vote in any policy, no matter how egregious. The US Constitution was set up with clearly limited government powers, trying to avoid such an outcome. The founders understood the danger of unbridled democracy. “They voted for it” is the mind set that got… Read more »

Didn’t you get the memo? The constitution doesn’t apply in Illinois, especially the 13th, 14th and 15th amendments. They are also eliminating the 1st and 2nd amendments. You have no rights there that one of your masters is likely to recognize. You are a slave. Either learn to enjoy it or leave. Those are your choices.

Another common assertion- just leave. Go to a red state. You will be safe there.

How do people who see what is happening think that leftists will just leave red states alone? Do you not see that this is what they intend to do to the entire country? Indiana is safe? I’m pretty sure all those who believe that will have a rude awakening.

You may not be safe there. Red states are not the garden of Eden. Democrat stupidity may spread there. But for the time being you are still free. In Illinois, you are a slave. As I have repeatedly said, move to another state and never ever vote for another democrat. Republicans may not be much better but at least they are not fluent in communism and totalitarianism. If you think staying and fighting is the way to go, I commend you. You are an idealist. Fifty years of fighting the Illinois slave state taught me that regardless of how hard… Read more »

Not exactly an idealist. I just don’t see the point in moving hundreds of miles away from family, only to have the same or worse happen in the new location, supposedly “safe” from the predators. We each have to make our own decisions.

You move to a red state because, as a conservative, they can offer some protection from a rogue federal government or other blue states.

You don’t have to move hundreds of miles. There are great options within 100 miles of Chicago. I wholly understand not wanting to be far from family. That’s why I stayed and remained a slave for as long as I did. But a strange thing happened. I moved and my family moved to me to be closer and to escape the same crap I escaped from. If it wasn’t for family ties, Illinois would be a ghost state.

BUT they did vote for it. At D+85 ratios. Literally and actually, D+85. That being said, it appears that in the primary, with 13% turnout, Kaegi did lose these south suburban townships at a very roughly 60% to 40% ratio to Kari Steele, who is currently on the water reclamation district, and ran for assessor. She is Black while Kaegi is white which is likely the only reason she beat Kaegi in these townships. However, in the general election, Kaegi won vs. the libertarian candidate with a D+85 in Rich Township. So yes, they voted for this.

Yes, I agree that people voted for it, and I said that. The fact that it was 85% doesn’t negate the point. Majorities vote for bad policies. Doesn’t make them right. This is exactly what the Constitution was designed to prevent- the tyranny of the majority. Despite the founders’ best efforts, it seems that schemers will always find a way to muscle themselves into power.

It’s not tyranny of the majority. It’s just high taxes with bad public policy. Not 85% of the voters. It’s D+85. It’s 92% of the voters. 92% vote Democrat, and the other 7% voted for the libertarian. 92%-7%=85 That’s D+85. 92% of the population down there voted for this and now complains about it. I don’t feel any sympathy for them at all.

Mark Glennon on AM560’s Morning Answer: Chicago pension buyout plan mostly shifts debt rather than eliminating it, property tax surge doubles inflation over three decades

Chicago’s political leadership is floating a pension buyout program as evidence it is seriously addressing the city’s thirty-six-billion-dollar unfunded pension liability, but Mark Glennon, founder of the Illinois policy research organization Wirepoints, said that the proposal moves debt from one column to another rather than reducing it, and that the broader fiscal picture facing the city continues to deteriorate across every measurable dimension. Audio here.
