Chicago’s political leadership is floating a pension buyout program as evidence it is seriously addressing the city’s thirty-six-billion-dollar unfunded pension liability, but Mark Glennon, founder of the Illinois policy research organization Wirepoints, said that the proposal moves debt from one column to another rather than reducing it, and that the broader fiscal picture facing the city continues to deteriorate across every measurable dimension. Audio here.
“Kraft said rather than continuing to support nuclear energy, Illinois needs to redouble its commitment to wind and solar.”
This guy is a bigger a$$hole than Excelon and ComEd put together–which they have been if I’m not mistaken.
HERE’S TO JEFF SKILLING!!!
I’m for a surcharge, electricity in Illinois is relatively cheap. And its cheap because of the reliable base nuclear provides. If Byron goes dark you’re going to see an even bigger increase than a subsidy. These jamokes in love with electric cars should want the subsidy too. If everyone in Illinois drove one of these crappy electric cars that cant even get you to the dells and back… we’re going to need to build six more nuke plants anyway. Why go backwards on our truly best in the nation power reliability, pay the damn subsidy.
3.5 to 5.5 cents per kw hr in nebraska. How much you payin?
Confusing article – so a perfectly functioning power plant is to be closed unless a taxpayer subsidy is provided? Hmmm, hasn’t Excelon been offsetting capital expenses on the plant for decades and cutting it’s tax bill? Those offsets are accounting gimmicks and have nothing to do with actual operations – so they where tax subsidies. What’s really going on here?
If you believe that global warming/climate change is significant then Nuclear Power is the ONLY solution. Period. Everything else is unscientific cloud cuckoo land.
Renewable energy, wind and solar is a geek fetish. Carbon credits and other scams don’t generate power. Byron, Dresden, Braidwood and all others were designed and built before high end CADCAM. The future is nuclear, Tokamac or high orbit solar. Disposal of spent fuel is a problem. Maybe Biden can find some allies to dump it on.
““The discussions in Springfield we don’t seem to have any influence on anymore. We’re kinda sitting here going ‘do you realize what you’re doing to us?’””
Oh, let’s see, did you vote Republican or Democrat? I’m sorry, you voted for the wrong party, what a bummer. You have NO representation in Springfield. Too bad! Now leave Illinois so we can sell your farmland to Bill Gates…
This is worse than ransom ware. Pritzker says he’s in favor of a ratepayer (taxpayer) subsidy, reason is Pritzker is hunting for more union votes that’s why he’s in favor of screwing everyone he can with this subsidy. He can tout hey look at what I did for the unions, Pritzker is the devils brother.
