Canada brings its tariff worries to Chicago as U.S. trade ties fray – Crain’s

Canada is the state’s largest foreign trade partner. Illinois companies exported nearly $20 billion in goods to Canada, predominantly chemicals and machinery, in 2024 while importing $64 billion, mostly oil and gas. Illinois refineries process tar sands from Alberta. The state’s nuclear plants also use uranium from Canada.

Canada is the USA largest trading partner and a great friend. Starting a trade war with them is just crazy.

The same could be said of Canada. Why do they want to keep high tariffs on the US, their largest trading partner and guarantor of the security of North America?

As I’ve said in another post, when you back out all the crude oil we buy from Canada (2/3 of our oil imports come from Canada – 4 million barrels per day) we have a balance of trade surplus with Canada. That means Canada buys more of our stuff than we buy of their stuff. Exactly what Trump wants. The Canadian tariff escalation is unpopular with Michigan and Maine voters and might help tip those senate elections to the democrats over their republican opponents.

The Canadian government with its 2nd installment of leftist governance has brought a lot of troubles onto itself. DJT was correct in calling them out on a lot of the trade imbalances, lack of defense spending, and tariffs. I noticed from something else I read that when the conservative side of their government asked Carney for specifics on why the trade talks broke off, they never got any explanations. Figures they would get together with Pritzker, another China fan. Carney and Pritzker, both hoser’s eh.

Wirepoints’ Mark Glennon on AM560: Why We Need to “Relentlessly” Make the Blue State-Red State Case

Glennon raised the stakes of the moment in broader civilizational terms: “This election in Illinois is not about the usual pedestrian issues… it’s about nothing less than whether Western civilization survives in our democratic republic of America because [the left], just on the open border alone, will destroy the country, and now they’re bringing in the jihadists, frankly, into the party.” Audio and summary linked here.Audio and summary linked here.
