A new measure has been introduced to ensure every Illinois mom that has insurance, whether private, through the state or Medicaid, has access to a car seat and crib after birth. Insurance companies would need to reimburse new mothers for the purchase of an approved car seat or crib or provide a car seat and crib directly to them.
This public generosity through the insurance code will simply raise the cost of insurance, particularly to small businesses, most of which are unable to self-fund their health benefits. This mandate would be on top of the recent unfunded mandates, including requiring employees to be able to cover their parents on their health insurance. All of these Illinois unfunded mandates are in addition to the unfunded mandates required by the ever expanding requirements of “preventive” care under the Affordable Care Act. Another example of government being big brother.Insurance companies will raise rates on all consumers for this government mandate. Novel idea don’t have children you can’t afford.

Democrats are always trying to give middle class things to people that don’t have middle class values.

Once again using insurance for purposes it was not intended to cover. I think parents should be the ones paying for this. (relatives, friends, charity, etc)
If such a great idea why try to funnel this through insurance companies, have the State handle it.
How much higher is our insurance due to all the State mandates?
