Celebrity chef Rick Bayless says omicron will devastate Chicago restaurant industry without federal relief: ‘Nobody knows what to do at this point.’ – Chicago Tribune*

In a January survey conducted by the National Restaurant Association, more than three quarters of Illinois restaurateurs said revenues were lower last year than in pre-pandemic 2019. Declines have accelerated since the omicron COVID-19 variant hit in December, with 97% of Illinois restaurants reporting lower indoor dining demand in recent weeks.

The small business restaurant lobby just don’t have the juice, Ricky. In fact, hollowing out the middle class is kinda the plan.

So guess where that leaves most restaurant owners. Not you of course. But most.

Rick is smart by opening up a restaurant in Disney Springs in Florida. He’ll be alright. Also don’t forget when indoor dining was shut down throughout 2020 the airport restaurants were not affected because…well…science. So his O’Hare location was open as well. Good on him for maintaining payroll for his full staff in the Chicago restaurants.

Celebrity chefs are lower than journalists. I suspect Bayless was the class snitch.

Do not spend any money in Chicago. The residents voted for the idiots now destroying the city. Punish the city financially until it drives change, or until it drops dead.

Still waiting for the restaurant groups to actually do something. Fighting back doesn’t seem to be important though.

How pathetic the Tribune has become. After begrudgingly reading the pay walled article’s content stripped out for free I did not see one mention of the draconian measures the ruling party of IL enacted that caused this mess in the first place. I did not read chef’s opinion of who is responsible for destroying his industry nor did chef call for end to the madness. Instead he called for more bailout money. The Tribune and Bayless support these freak show political clowns and the entire clown world circus they’ve created. With all do respect Rick Bayless, FU. You voted for… Read more »

The article didn’t even mention indoor mandates!!! They blame omicron even though omicron isn’t very much affecting restaurant business in mandate free cities and states. This is just flat out propaganda on behalf of the mayor and county commissioner. It’s entirely possible that Bayless spent 30 minutes screaming about the indoor mandates but the reporter purposely omitted that part to keep the mayor and commissioner’s office happy. We’ll never know. It’s just part of the lies they push. Lies like this tell me the indoor mandate isn’t going away any time soon. Lori, Toni & Dirty Hair know exactly what… Read more »

This is pure Crap-cago Tribune Democrat regime propaganda when the article doesn’t even mention indoor vaccine mandates, but instead, blame “omicron” for the massive drop off in business BEGINNING THE WEEK THE VACCINE MANDATE WAS ANNOUNCED. hmm………Open Table released their own press release just yesterday and it seems to counter the omicron narrative…..in fact, the press release says that cities with vaccine mandates faced MASSIVE declines in reservations compared to 2019, but cities without vaccine mandates had much, much smaller declines, and some cities are doing even better today than they were pre-pandemic! But we can’t expect the bootlicking Tribune… Read more »

Mark Glennon on AM560’s Morning Answer: Chicago pension buyout plan mostly shifts debt rather than eliminating it, property tax surge doubles inflation over three decades

Chicago’s political leadership is floating a pension buyout program as evidence it is seriously addressing the city’s thirty-six-billion-dollar unfunded pension liability, but Mark Glennon, founder of the Illinois policy research organization Wirepoints, said that the proposal moves debt from one column to another rather than reducing it, and that the broader fiscal picture facing the city continues to deteriorate across every measurable dimension. Audio here.
