Chicago’s political leadership is floating a pension buyout program as evidence it is seriously addressing the city’s thirty-six-billion-dollar unfunded pension liability, but Mark Glennon, founder of the Illinois policy research organization Wirepoints, said that the proposal moves debt from one column to another rather than reducing it, and that the broader fiscal picture facing the city continues to deteriorate across every measurable dimension. Illinois does have a pretty amazing craft brew scene. Illinois beer drinkers also like to drink local. I know plenty of people that purchase a significant amount of their beer from the local brewer down the block instead of the national brands. This of course is not without precedent, the local brewery has always customer’s first choice for nearly all of millennia, as beer was difficult to transport and encouraged local consumption.
