Chicago’s political leadership is floating a pension buyout program as evidence it is seriously addressing the city’s thirty-six-billion-dollar unfunded pension liability, but Mark Glennon, founder of the Illinois policy research organization Wirepoints, said that the proposal moves debt from one column to another rather than reducing it, and that the broader fiscal picture facing the city continues to deteriorate across every measurable dimension. Looking at her bio she is/was involved with a few “community housing” organizations. Seems like that letter is an effort for her to tee up giving more money to these groups.
Real question to be answered: Why did Alderwoman not remove herself from waiting list, given that her income as ward alderman would preclude her from qualifying for housing assistance in first place? She should at least set an example of honesty and accountability. But nope, sounds like she’s miffed she didn’t get a certificate for a set-aside downtown luxury apartment courtesy of Chicago taxpayers.
She should not have even been on the list. Chiraqi alder creatures make big bucks and also have access to lots of kickbacks and bribes. Isn’t there some maximum income limit? I doubt she would been a qualified recipient of additional public money, and she would have taken an opportunity from a needy and qualified applicant.
As someone who works in social services, including housing/homelessness services, I have to say her “story” is “full of holes”. Single mothers with kids get VERY FIRST PRIORITY in getting housing, can often get it in weeks or a few months. BUT – they have to be constantly engaged in the process, they have to pro – active, to follow up with appointments, etc. They have to meet certain requirements (drug testing, no felony background, decent credit…). Applicants also have to be very flexible in where their housing opportunities might be, being “picky” is not an option – and if… Read more »
Wow, very informative Comment, GM. Makes it apparent that the city govt is a tad too involved in the housing business.
Sounds like a financial mess. I wonder if taxpayers have any idea of the $ all that assistance to unemployed folks costs.
Why is society responsible for individuals’ bad choices? A 19-year-old with three children? Where were their fathers? Where were her parents and peers – were they counseling her about her life choices or were they cheering her on so she could become a permanent dependent on the state? It always amazes me when women who produce multiple children with no stable household complain because society isn’t stepping up. Do they ever look in the mirror? Does she realize how many single parent households there are? That creates stiff competition for a limited resource. Another major problem Chicago faces – individuals… Read more »
Because city govt welfare enables ppl to make bad life choices. “Assists” them. Meanwhile city, county & state are sanctuaries for illegals, who then depress wages and take jobs our citizens would take (if they werent getting so much welfare). Thus city govt (& state & federal) ends up over-taxing ppl & bizs, so they often flee the city & state. At least it’s not only the city & state creating this mess. The federal govt has messed up the entire economy over the last 17 months and Dem governors messed it up for an entire year, 2020. Democrat policies… Read more »
Pure communist here.
Yes and it’s the playbook of Saul Alinsky, and the husband & wife teachers at Columbia Univ who were communists/marxists…Obama prob took classes of theirs when he xferred there in Sept ‘81, from my school Occidental College in L.A. , 1/2way thru undergrad. His fave prof at Oxy was the avowed marxist Roger Boesche, who ended up visiting the White House many times betw ‘09 and ‘16. These ppl (and practically every Democrat in office or running) believe the main purpose of govt (fed, st, loc) is to “help” people. And therein lies the problem, because it usually ends up… Read more »
