I like the path addition idea, thats a valid function of government, it benefits all who choose to use them. But the giving away free bikes is going too far, thats just pandering, not a function of government, benefits only the chosen few.

Free bike to ride the 606 trail and get robbed, shot or raped. Free bike to ride at the lakefront to get robbed, shot or raped. Free bike to ride thru Grant Park to get robbed, shot or raped. Free bike to tour the lovely city streets to get robbed, shot, or raped. I’m in!

Chicago’s political leadership is floating a pension buyout program as evidence it is seriously addressing the city’s thirty-six-billion-dollar unfunded pension liability, but Mark Glennon, founder of the Illinois policy research organization Wirepoints, said that the proposal moves debt from one column to another rather than reducing it, and that the broader fiscal picture facing the city continues to deteriorate across every measurable dimension.
