Chicago’s political leadership is floating a pension buyout program as evidence it is seriously addressing the city’s thirty-six-billion-dollar unfunded pension liability, but Mark Glennon, founder of the Illinois policy research organization Wirepoints, said that the proposal moves debt from one column to another rather than reducing it, and that the broader fiscal picture facing the city continues to deteriorate across every measurable dimension. They sure aggressively go for the DUIs though…a true cash cow
If Kim Foxx has chosen to ignore crime, then the cops should ignore crime too right? I mean they’re both on the states side, enforcement and justice, a team.
A good portion of the drop is likely due to the lack of weed arrests. Cops used to bust teenagers by the busloads for getting caught with a little weed. Even a roach the size of a pencil tip was enough to get a SWAT team called out. It was ridiculous. Lives were ruined. Cars were impounded. In a few cases, cops even tried to impound entire houses. I’d be OK with the cops focusing on violent offenders, but the pendulum has swung too far. Cops not only ignore weed, they ignore violent offenders too. Prosecutors and judges not only… Read more »
I think (but don’t have the proof here) that it’s related to policing pulling over fewer drivers, resulting in fewer suspended license arrests, fewer DUI’s, fewer reckless drivings, and fewer gun crimes. A lot ways criminals got caught was in transit, when a broken taillight or failure to use a turn signal lead to cops finding drugs, guns, and other major driving related issues.
If I were a cop I’d now do everything strictly by the book to not get in trouble. I’d fill out paperwork all day long, patrol less, to make sure my paperwork quality exceeds my policing quality. Have ta cover my butt you know, legally, paperwork is more important now. Id go slowly to calls, except if it were an officer down call. I’d approach calls with great caution, no risks that might get me in legal hot water. I’d make sure I acted at all times in accordance with the perpetrators race topmost in my mind. This, to make… Read more »
Laughable that anyone would think cops in Chicago or Cook County would actually try to be cops. Restorative Justice cheerleader, Kim Foxx, will have charges dropped for that certain ethnic group she so vigorously defends.
no equal justice in Chicago
That would be fine if crime had decreased 74% too. Cops have been handcuffed by progressives to the point that they have become report takers after the crime has been committed.
Proactive police work is now viewed as “racist” and a good way for a policeman to lose his job.
Crime IS down, the mayor repeats that all the time! And when it’s not down, they just say that you should be grateful crime isn’t as bad as it was in the 70’s or 90’s.
