Chicago Bears’ commit $2 billion in a new stadium in the city – NBC5 (Chicago)

In a statement provided by a spokesperson, CEO and President Kevin Warren said the Bears will contribute over $2 billion to build a stadium and improve open spaces "for all families, fans and the general public to enjoy" in Chicago. While the team hasn't said if the stadium will be located adjacent to Soldier Field, the lawmaker did say that the project will provide access to the lakefront.

The Bears stadium ‘Hunger Games’ are alive and well. Chicago keeps talking about the need to fund Johnson’s and the CTU’s programs, while wanting to talk TIF’s with the Bears and White Sox now. I will not hold my breathe on anything. Could be another 10 years is my guess.

It’s getting to the point where a lot of working people don’t really care whether these overpaid crybabies play their overpriced game or not. Frankly, I’m tired of professional sports athletes spouting off about injustice while getting paid millions to play kids games, get in fights at strip bars, the occasional drug bust/ felonious assault / fatal car crash and promoting a “ me, me, me “ attitude.

In the currently depressed state of mediocre or worse Chicago pro sports teams, I find it easier not to watch most games either on TV or in person. I save time and money, and will live a longer and better life if I don’t get killed or mugged.

Mark Glennon on AM560’s Morning Answer: Chicago pension buyout plan mostly shifts debt rather than eliminating it, property tax surge doubles inflation over three decades

Chicago’s political leadership is floating a pension buyout program as evidence it is seriously addressing the city’s thirty-six-billion-dollar unfunded pension liability, but Mark Glennon, founder of the Illinois policy research organization Wirepoints, said that the proposal moves debt from one column to another rather than reducing it, and that the broader fiscal picture facing the city continues to deteriorate across every measurable dimension.
