Where would Chicago find more money to give to Bears for a new enclosed stadium? Chicago hasn’t even paid for prior Soldiers Field renovation project.

Hmm, the Pontiac Silverdome was an indoor stadium. IMHO, the Lions played better in the old Tiger Stadium which was built when God was a boy. The cold toughened them up. They should have been renamed the Pussycats 45 years ago.

HJ,

WP is a family website with objective discourse. If the Detroit Lions took your suggestion to heart they’d have to remove 4 letters and add 2. This would rank right up there with the marketing geniuses that tanked Bud Lite. I don’t think the Ford family will ever be known for woke progressive thinking as eventually they’d all have to get a real job somewhere else.

And after all this posturing over the years with Da Bears 1) Team is sold 2) Ends up in San Antonio. Think Stan Kroenke.

Five billion from a broke city, broke state, broke county and a socialist Mayor? Good luck with that idea. The real problem for the Bears is that staying at Soldier Field is the only real option, and everyone knowledgeable about the topic knows that. But the Bears keep trying to convince us that there are alternatives.

Do the Bears have some sort of rose-colored crystal ball about the future of Chicago?

This is being used as a means to put the screws to the Arlington Heights crowd — they see the Bears as a nuisance to be taxed up to the sky, rather than the only hope for putting a giant empty site back on the tax rolls

Mark Glennon on AM560’s Morning Answer: Chicago pension buyout plan mostly shifts debt rather than eliminating it, property tax surge doubles inflation over three decades

Chicago’s political leadership is floating a pension buyout program as evidence it is seriously addressing the city’s thirty-six-billion-dollar unfunded pension liability, but Mark Glennon, founder of the Illinois policy research organization Wirepoints, said that the proposal moves debt from one column to another rather than reducing it, and that the broader fiscal picture facing the city continues to deteriorate across every measurable dimension.
