"It's our obligation to explore every possible option to ensure we're doing what's best for our organization and its future," team President and CEO Ted Phillips said in a statement. "If selected, this step allows us to further evaluate the property and its potential."
McCaskeys realize their season ticket-holders are reluctant to come to downtown Chicago post-Covid, given the rampant street-crime and random shootings. Why, even Lake Shore Drive now has frequent day-time drive-by shootings, several per week, actually covered by media and sometimes national press. It’s a real issue for Chicago, though ineffectively addressed by Lightfoot and her lightweight CPD Chief Brown, and mostly trivialized by Trib and SunTimes (until very recently). I’ve heard the team will have inheritance tax problems when ma dies off and a new stadium is one way to shelter the money. Don’t know the specifics but it would make sense. Can’t sell a portion of team to pay taxes. A entire team can’t just pAss to heirs tax free with inheritance taxes these days. Must be sold or must have no value hence tied up value of team in some debt ladened stadium and avoid taxes and keep in family.
