Chicago Mayor warns city would be unable to support more migrants without federal help – Chicago Tribune/MSN

J.B. Pritzker, left, and Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson arrive for a news conference Aug. 30, 2023, to urge President Joe Biden to use legal authority to expand work authorizations for migrants.“Let me state this clearly: The city of Chicago can not go on welcoming new arrivals safely and capably without significant support and immigration policy changes,” Mayor Brandon Johnson said. A letter Johnson and Gov. JB Pritzker sent Monday to Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas said Illinois and Chicago had spent and obligated $250 million to help the more than 13,000 asylum-seekers who have come to Chicago from the U.S.-Mexico border in the past year.

WP readers;

This will end in tears and hyperinflation. Seriously, anybody who thinks they can save up for their retirement in terms of dollars will end up just like these invaders.

Stack up for a rainy day…..

With no comprehensive federal screening of “recently-arrived migrants”, these folks are whoever they choose to present themselves as.

No legal identity check.

No criminal record background check.

No meaningful medical check.

Just given Fed phone and court-date, bus ride to Chicago, a bed in a $250/night 3rd-party managed shelter, and soon, permission to seek employment as “legal” work-applicant.

It’s completely insane, that’s what it is. This immigration issue is legitimately the biggest issue of our lifetimes, with ramifications far into the future that we can only see glimpse of today. They are doing this to America because they hate us.

JB & CTU/BRANDON are pushing Washington to fast track work permits not just for 13,000 ‘new arrival’ migrants but anyone of the 100s of thousands of undocumented in Illinois(1/2 mil???)? Then you have to assume all those immigrants will be able to claim Medicaid, housing subsidies, etc? But yet JB states that municipalities outside Chicago are not obligated to provide welcoming benefits to migrants, even though entire state is a sanctuary state?? How’s all this going to play in ‘disinvested’ Black community/politics will be interesting??

There should be a legal requirement that a govt entity cannot claim sanctuary status without proper budgeting. No money? Then status is revoked.

What i don’t get is supposedly the entire state’s a sanctuary state but each municipality is under no obligation to provide welcoming benifits (shelter, food, etc)

The illegal immigrant fiasco is part of the overall plan by the Democrats to retain control of the country and big blue states. Let these people come into the country unchallenged and in big numbers, create a humanitarian nightmare too big to ignore, get billions from the federal government to take care of them, give them jobs (like law enforcement and farming right JB?) and sign them up to vote. Mission accomplished.

Don’t forget the Illinois taxpayer – as in ONLY Illinois taxpayers – funded health care handout.

Maybe you should have asked the citizens before you declared the city a sanctuary, and spent the money? Now the city has to go begging to DC again. When will Chicago put its big-boy pants on?

Mark Glennon on AM560’s Morning Answer: Chicago pension buyout plan mostly shifts debt rather than eliminating it, property tax surge doubles inflation over three decades

Chicago’s political leadership is floating a pension buyout program as evidence it is seriously addressing the city’s thirty-six-billion-dollar unfunded pension liability, but Mark Glennon, founder of the Illinois policy research organization Wirepoints, said that the proposal moves debt from one column to another rather than reducing it, and that the broader fiscal picture facing the city continues to deteriorate across every measurable dimension.
