Chicago’s political leadership is floating a pension buyout program as evidence it is seriously addressing the city’s thirty-six-billion-dollar unfunded pension liability, but Mark Glennon, founder of the Illinois policy research organization Wirepoints, said that the proposal moves debt from one column to another rather than reducing it, and that the broader fiscal picture facing the city continues to deteriorate across every measurable dimension. There would be many more deaths from all these shootings if it weren’t for the first responders and trauma teams at the hospitals. They work in war zone type of setting and rarely get credit for the work they do. How must they feel after seeing carnage day after day? Yet little if any PR or acknowledgement are given that I am aware of. Who is looking out for their well being?
