Chicago’s political leadership is floating a pension buyout program as evidence it is seriously addressing the city’s thirty-six-billion-dollar unfunded pension liability, but Mark Glennon, founder of the Illinois policy research organization Wirepoints, said that the proposal moves debt from one column to another rather than reducing it, and that the broader fiscal picture facing the city continues to deteriorate across every measurable dimension. Hmm, there’s a reason nobody wantsvto be the Chicago Police.
They all took $5 million dollar pensions and moved to Punta Gorda, Fl.
Living the safe luxury life in the sun and fun. Want a cop, call the Punta Gorda Yacht Club or Golf Course.
Well if Chicago thinks they should return to their former jobs perhaps then they are allowed to retire too soon. Today we have life spans longer than those in the past making retirement age qualifiers that should be lengthened as well.
Being ‘on the job’ is a far cry from working a normal 9 to 5 job. Burn out comes quicker when first on the scene of death and beatings, constant threat of assault by the public and/or administration or the press, dealing with the justice system that releases thugs, and the occasional dodged bullet.
They’ve earned their retirement … then some.
Oh, I don’t think Poor Taxpayer and company will support you on that. Expect a barrage to that effect.
Funny…I hear teachers making the same arguments
How many dead bodies does the average teacher deal with? How many trips to the morgue? How many beaten and bleeding children do teachers encounter? How many teachers respond to domestic calls and are attacked by angry spouses?
How often are teachers attacked by angry mobs? (On the lighter side: okay, that one I may have to concede – I’ve seen some of these teens.)
Both professions are stressful – both take their toll on the individual, but to equate the two as far as stress/burn out is specious.
Teaching is stressful because they are reaping the consequences of the BS they have sold for decades. Cops are also reaping consequences, but they were not sowing that BS. Entirely different circumstances.
They should just buy cardboard cutouts of cops and they would do the same amount of work.
No one is going to give up their luxury lifestyle in Punta Gorda, Florida for the crime ridden Chitty.
