Chicago residents concerned over discontinuation of ShotSpotter: ‘How will the police know where all the shootings are?’ – Chicago Tribune/MSN

Rikita Mitchell, 39, waiting in line outside Above and Beyond Food Pantry in West Garfield Park Monday afternoon, wasn’t even sure why ShotSpotter was being discontinued. Authorities should have gotten rid of technology that monitors traffic violations before tossing out ShotSpotter, she added.

It would be interesting to know if any of the aldermen who voted against it have a shot spotter in their ward.

Offer people a cash reward for calling in gunshots if the call leads to an arrest or to a victim that was shot.

Perhaps Rikita doesn’t understand that traffic tickets ( when they are actually paid ) are low hanging fruit for the city. Very few contested in court ( by out of towners ) no need for lawyers, trials, motions, continuations etc. Shooting guns an entirely different situation.

Has Rikita ever voted for someone other than a democrat in her life? My guess is no. So now why should anyone care? Enjoy living in a zoo.

How will they know where all the shots are being fired. Well now that’s the biggest question. ShotSpotter is, was racist because it was installed in mostly black and hispanic neighborhoods. No need in the so called safe areas, White neighborhoods, because 97% of all shootings and homicides involve the previously mentioned races. So the answer to the question is, nobody cares. The elected politicians in Chicago are mostly black and hispanic and they don’t care, period. That’s the answer pure and simple.

Not knowing where the shots are fired are a feature, not a bug. Remember, 80% of all shots fired aren’t reported to 911. The residents in the neighborhood don’t even care enough to call the police themselves. I know it’s the will of most alderman to keep shotspotter – and kudos to them for standing up for what is right – but the many residents themselves don’t seem to care. And if the people that live there don’t care, then I don’t either.

What CTU/Brandons progressive brainiacs want to replace Shotspotter is being left to Deputy Mayor of Community Safety Garien Gatewoods–“Acoustic Gunshot Detection (ACD) Alternatives Working Group”. Whoever they are, their first meeting wasn’t unbelievably until Aug 14th (per WGN)….It’s a complete s-show folks: “A copy of emails obtained by WGN News through a public records request showed the so-called Acoustic Gunshot Detection (ACD) Alternatives Working Group was not scheduled to meet for the first time until Aug. 14. Previous emails show city personnel drafted the language for an invite to join the group in July.According to a spokesperson for the mayor’s… Read more »

Mark Glennon on AM560’s Morning Answer: Chicago pension buyout plan mostly shifts debt rather than eliminating it, property tax surge doubles inflation over three decades

Chicago’s political leadership is floating a pension buyout program as evidence it is seriously addressing the city’s thirty-six-billion-dollar unfunded pension liability, but Mark Glennon, founder of the Illinois policy research organization Wirepoints, said that the proposal moves debt from one column to another rather than reducing it, and that the broader fiscal picture facing the city continues to deteriorate across every measurable dimension. Audio here.
