Chicago restaurants are being burglarized in record numbers: ‘I’m just beyond outraged’ – Chicago Sun-Times

Ald. Brian Hopkins noted that his ward — which covers parts of Lincoln Park, Streeterville, the Gold Coast, Old Town and the Near North Side — has seen two types of burglaries: those targeting cafes and eateries for cash and others raiding restaurants’ liquor supplies to feed “a thriving black market” for booze. He’s now pushing to revisit the police department’s controversial vehicle pursuit policy that requires cops to determine whether apprehending a suspect outweighs the risk of a chase.

Theft in Chicago, be it car jacking, looting, break-ins, or shoplifting is considered ‘equity’. The comments of the shop owners in this article shows their stupidity towards career criminals. They are easy marks.

This is great for the suburbs. The local restaurants near me are thriving. Seem always busy.

The restaurant owner is “beyond outraged.” Well, maybe not, since he hasn’t moved his restaurant out of Chicago. I’d say he’s more like “concerned.” After the next burglary, he’ll be outraged. After the one after that, we’re into the “beyond outraged” mode.

Are these business owners not aware of the unbridled crime going on in Chicago? Maybe they’re like some of my relatives, who are, amazingly, still in denial.

Officers were able to thwart a smash-and-grab burglary last month at Infuzed Cafe, a coffee shop in Logan Square. Guerra, 51, was charged with felony counts of burglary, criminal property damage and cannabis possession, court records show. He was on electronic monitoring at the time.

“It would suck if he tried to come back again,” she noted. “It makes us feel good that something was done.”

Something was done? Nothing is going to be done, he will be let out again.

In response to the burglaries, the owner of a cafe in Bucktown asked, “Do we start with providing more help for these people that don’t have anything, or that are driven to steal?”

Sweetie, this isn’t Les Miserables. They steal because they can. They live in a culture where taking what you want is not only not frowned upon, but openly encouraged and celebrated. Until you bleeding hearts realize that, have fun replacing your inventory and equipment every six months until you go out of business.

These people have such a clouded mind that they think breaking into a coffee shop is an act of desperation. It would seem that seeking basic food and clothing would be a higher priority than coffee with zero calories. Unless they think the owner keeps cash in her business after hours. If so, I am sure the fellow business owners around her shop appreciate her encouragement of criminal behavior.

Well, as we were informed by the self proclaimed local BLM loudmouthed young lady during the St. Floyd riots “ They just gettin bread for they babies! This is our reperations! Insurance will cover the damage!”. Such is the mentality of the criminally underserved.

Mark Glennon on AM560’s Morning Answer: Chicago pension buyout plan mostly shifts debt rather than eliminating it, property tax surge doubles inflation over three decades

Chicago’s political leadership is floating a pension buyout program as evidence it is seriously addressing the city’s thirty-six-billion-dollar unfunded pension liability, but Mark Glennon, founder of the Illinois policy research organization Wirepoints, said that the proposal moves debt from one column to another rather than reducing it, and that the broader fiscal picture facing the city continues to deteriorate across every measurable dimension. Audio here.
