Chicago schools poised to vote on keeping police on campuses – Chalkbeat Chicago

Last summer, the district approved a $10.2 million contract to station police officers at 40 campuses in the 2022-23 school year. The contract covers salaries and benefits for 59 police officers at campuses mostly on the South and West Sides. Other schools voted to remove police, or never had them on campus.

First off if the CPD administration places officers in school they better be prepared for a firestorm if anything goes sideways with one of the protected class of students and the officer uses any sort of force to control the situation. Secondly any officer who applies for or accepts a duty assignment in a CPS school should be examined for a mental disorder. They are not wanted by a majority of staff. Not wanted by a majority of students makes a wonderful environment for an officer to perform their duties if needed. Let CPS hire a security firm, politically connected… Read more »

Spot on Paul. When the inevitable happens at least it won’t be on the CPD.

When Old Joe went to Catholic school in Detroit in the mid 60s, Sister Mary Knuckles maintained order for free. What changed?

School administrators believe in some vague and destructive notion of inclusion, where problem students should be ‘protected’ from law enforcement, because it results in discipline and punishment. Stupid educators naively believe in a more holistic approach to behavior control, which fails miserably. Schools used to have a standard where disruptive children were unwelcome in schools because it wrecked the well behaved children’s ability to learn. But because more minority students were disciplined than non-minority students, the DIE ideology believes that all disparities are due to racism, and therefore, the antiracist thing to do is stop punishing minority students.
