Chicago teachers strike highlights America’s top 3 economic threats – CNBC

"We need to get something more than glorified daycare for that $694 billion we spend on education every year. Perhaps this strike in Chicago will get more of us thinking of a better alternative."

I’d like to see this broken down among single-parent families, minimum wage working parent(s), families on welfare, food stamps, etc. If the statistics exist, they are probably hidden from view. With high earners, it’s an easy trade off if the Nanny costs $25,000 per year and the parent or other individual who’d otherwise be the caregiver is earning 3 to 10 times that cost. This is essentially a lifestyle choice for the caregiver(s). This cohort should not qualify for any child care tax benefits because they are already affluent. Single parent minimum wage earners really need some help. But extra… Read more »

Well spoken. I would like to add that it seems like Illinois encourages single motherhood. At a townhall a while back some one asked the state senator why is it that case workers promote single parenting. Sen asked . What do you mean? The gentleman said that the case worker asked the mom who is this male in the house and how is he related to the child. No answer by the mom. The case worker said I will be back tomorrow when you are alone. Meaning more benefits. This brought up a heated debate between the Sen and the participants… Read more »

I like Bloomberg. I like Romney and Joe Lieberman at least for adhering to principles if not for their stances on particular issues. David Boren of Oklahoma (Governor, Senator, Rhodes Scholar) although he is getting up in years. To reach a bit further, there’s Bill Gates from a preferable age cohort. Gates’s efforts through his foundation show a level of energy and intelligence seldom seen in high political office. Plus a bonus First Lady who is independent-minded and articulate. This week it’s beginning to look possible that someone may challenge Trump for the Republican nomination. As Trump would say, “Not… Read more »

Yes, putting a father on a birth certificate is racist. It is assuming that western Judeo-Christian cultural concepts of a father providing for this children and the mother of his child (or children) is superior to other cultural concepts of spreading seed and moving on. There are many places in the world where this is perfectly acceptable, especially in the nordic countries where fathers are almost entirely absent, and couples rarely marry. And in sub-saharan africa too, the rates of single motherhood range from 30% to 70% in countries like Zimbabwe. So yes to push your cultural concepts of fathers… Read more »

There’s more than three threats. Another threat is socialist teachers teaching our kids that there’s unlimited money for nurses, counselors, new buildings, undocumented students, etc. There’s clueless students who think the state can print money and don’t know how much debt their states are in. They will be perfect food for credit card companies and student lenders.

I find it amusing that those who have come onto this site attempting to argue in favor of the CTU have proven all of us right. Not a single real solution amidst all the name calling. And these are the people who are supposed to be educating Chicago’s children.

You say they’re educating…that’s funny! There’s no educating going on at all! Only 27.4% of CPS students grade 3-8 scored proficient in reading, and only 22.4% in math. Who is getting educated? no one really, pretty sad.

I don’t know if you have time for additional input on the collegiate academic scene, but Jordan Peterson reports from inside the tent with great insight — see

A statewide concern: Illinois’ population decline outpaces neighboring states – Wirepoints on ABC20 Champaign

“We are not in good shape” Wirepoints’ Ted Dabrowski told ABC 20 Champaign during a segment on Illinois’ latest population losses. Illinois was one of just three states to shrink in the 2010-2020 period and has lost another 300,000 people since then. Ted says things need to change. “It’s too expensive to live here, there aren’t enough good jobs and nobody trusts the government anymore. There’s just other places to go where you can be more satisfied.”
