Chicago’s political leadership is floating a pension buyout program as evidence it is seriously addressing the city’s thirty-six-billion-dollar unfunded pension liability, but Mark Glennon, founder of the Illinois policy research organization Wirepoints, said that the proposal moves debt from one column to another rather than reducing it, and that the broader fiscal picture facing the city continues to deteriorate across every measurable dimension. I saw a sign on Wed during that protest. It was a black woman carrying a sign that said that Lori Lightfoot was her oppressor. That’s literally insane. Lightfoot isn’t oppressing anyone much less another member of her own identity group.
Chicago has no hope, these people will never change. Let the entire city become return to swampland like it was before 1818.
