Chicago’s political leadership is floating a pension buyout program as evidence it is seriously addressing the city’s thirty-six-billion-dollar unfunded pension liability, but Mark Glennon, founder of the Illinois policy research organization Wirepoints, said that the proposal moves debt from one column to another rather than reducing it, and that the broader fiscal picture facing the city continues to deteriorate across every measurable dimension. CTU are the lowest and most verminous of Public Sector unions. Its pretty difficult to slither lower than AFSCME but CTU has done it. School vouchers for all and the resulting economic competition will shine sunshine into the coffin full of slothful vampires.
Amendment 1 and union capture of City Hall have opened a huge window on the CTU and the people who run the schools. No more hiding behind “it’s for the children”. The most generous interpretation of these demands is that union leadership is insane. Greedy, arrogant, ignorant authoritarians seems the more likely cause.
Before we hear all about their right to collectively bargain granted them by voters, please note that I said nothing about their rights. I am pointing out what these demands reveal about CTU leadership and their members.
It reveals that they want the best possible contract for themselves and other members. Not exactly shocking as that is the point of any union negotiation.
This may come as a shock, but most people consider staying grounded in reality the best way to go about their business.
That’s what I’m doing, staying grounded in reality. So is the CTU. They believe that they can get an even better contract in terms of pay and benefits. It certainly seems like reality that they will get an improved contract. If you were truly grounded in reality then you would understand that the unions main purpose is to represent its members and get them the best possible contract.
It’s time for you to join most people and stay grounded in reality. After all, it’s the best way to go about your business.
I hope they do keep throwing out these ridiculous demands. Hey, demand your equity share of the moon made of green cheese. These are people who demand their right to teach children that little boys could really be little girls.
Clearly they don’t see reality as a limiting constraint on their vision for society. Keep up the demands; maybe finally people will see that these people don’t belong anywhere near a classroom.
Oh you can’t provide me moon made green cheese? Ok, I guess we will just settle for a 9 percent raise instead. Some might even call this a tactic in negotiating.
PPF, if CTU had only talked about a 9% raise, I would think it was excessive but I would agree that it was a negotiating tactic. But that’s not what we are talking about here, despite your best efforts to make it so. New housing? Parking garages? Environmental causes? They have gone far outside the realm of negotiating tactics.
And just like that moon made green cheese, most of those other issues will be dropped for pay and benefits. By the time it’s done you may even feel good about a measly 9 percent raise. Win-Win.
Parasites that survive don’t kill their host.
Then you have nothing to worry about. Either CTU won’t kill off the host or they will take them down. Either way, all will work out in the end.
In the meantime, their union will continue to negotiate for the best possible contract. It’s their constitutional right. Don’t hate on the constitution TPG.
CTU are a cancer upon all of Illinois. Destroy this rot now.
Dear Ghost
You must realize the all CTU members are now directed to drive Rolls Royce Wraith
Black Badge autos, nothing to good for the
Rank and file. Next negotiations a chicken in every pot.
To the parents of the children they send to CPS it does not matter one iota. Since education K-12 shall be free the cost does not matter to them? It could be $30K or 100K per student no big deal to them. Now if they were charged tuition and get the money back like free after rebate at the end of the school year things would change almost immediately. Many if not all parents would question where and how their money is spent. The average parent with a student is clueless to what it costs except for private schools where… Read more »
